It is also important to look at aspects of the two bids aside from just destination. This is as much about how the service is provided as where it will take you.  

Boutique Air has the edge on equipment. Their pressurized turboprops mean being able to get above the weather and fewer cancellations due to weather. Not to mention their aircraft are modern and faster. Cape Air is flying a fleet of Cessna aircraft that has been out of production since 1985 making maintenance harder and harder each year.  

On the flip side Boutique Air doesn't have the interline agreements Cape Air has.  So if you have a tight connection in say Boston, no problem if you are on Cape Air because your checked baggage and ticket are seamless straight through to your next carrier.  Boutique air?  Not so much.  In many airports they fly into what are call Fixed Based Operators (FBO), which are located separate and away from the commercial terminal.  Which means when you land you are landing outside the secured area in many or most cases.  So that means collecting your bags, you and your bags having to travel to a separate terminal, checking in again for the next leg of your flight and then having to pass through security and proceed to your gate.  No chance with a tight connection.

The Town of Massena is currently reviewing two proposals by airlines to provide air service from Massena International Airport to regional air service hubs.

 

The current supplier has three daily roundtrips to Albany with connecting service to Boston on nine-passenger Cessna aircraft.  The same carrier also offers flights to Albany with connections to Boston via the Ogdensburg Airport.

The Town Council will be holding a public meeting on Nov. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 30 on the second floor of the Massena Town Hall, 60 Main St..  If you would like to submit comments to me about the likelihood you would use the Massena Airport with these destinations, including naming the two direct destinations you would most likely choose to use, I will be collecting wider feedback from Clarkson and sending a summary to the Town Supervisor.   Your response to me by November 29 would be appreciated.
